Instructions

  1. Combine 1/4 cup of Elmer's Glue-All™, 1/4 cup of cornstarch, and 1/4 cup of flour in a small bowl. Mix together.
  2. Knead the mixture until it forms into clay.
  3. Form the clay into any shape that you'd like. Store your piece of clay in an air-tight container until it is hard and dry. This usually takes 1 to 2 days.
  4. Paint your piece of home made clay and decorate it. Let the paint dry completely.
Time-Saving Hints:
  • To create a necklace or ornament, make a small hole in the clay while it is wet. After the clay dries, insert a piece of ribbon or yarn and hang!
Teaching Tips:
  • Have students do all of the measuring for this project. Provide them with different measuring tools, and encourage them to measure other things around the classroom. Discuss the use of fractions when working with measurements.
  • Encourage students to create letters with their home-made clay. Ask students to make 3D name plaques to place on their desks.
  • Have students create their home-made pieces of clay as a gift for someone special. A clay necklace makes a great Mother's Day gift, and a clay paperweight makes a great Father's Day gift. Encourage students to create greeting cards to accompany their gifts.
