Instructions
- Paint a cardboard egg carton inside and out. Let the paint dry completely.
- Glue cotton balls inside of the egg-carton cups. Place a drop of glue in the bottom of each cup. Place a cotton ball on top of the glue. Let the glue dry completely.
- Decorate the outside of the egg carton using Elmer's 3D Washable Paint Pens™. Let the paint dry completely.
- Attach sequins, beads, gemstones, and sticky jewels. Use a ribbon to tie the box closed.
- Store your favorite keepsakes inside of this personalized box!
- Ask students to write a short paragraph about their most treasured keepsake. Encourage students to describe the object, where it came from, and why it is so important to them. Have students share their writing with the rest of the class.
- Have students research the different kinds of gemstones that exist. Discuss how most gemstones are precious or semi-precious minerals that have been cut and polished until they shine. Encourage each student to find out their birthstone, or birthday gemstone, and write a short paragraph about it.
- This project is a great example of recycling a material and reusing it as something else. Ask students to brainstorm a list of other items which could be reused in unique ways. Examples include a glass jar as a vase, an old tire as a swing, and a milk carton as a birdfeeder.
