Asian Paper Lantern
Make a beautiful Asian-inspired paper lantern!

Supplies Needed:
- Elmer's Glue-Allâ„¢
- Construction Paper
- Scissors
- Yarn
- Hole Punch

Instructions
- Fold a sheet of construction paper in half width-wise.
- Start at the fold and cut out to about 1 inch from the edge of the paper. Make multiple cuts about 2 inches apart.
- Unfold the paper. Attach the ends with glue. Hold the ends together for a few seconds until the glue begins to dry.
- Separate the sections of the lantern by bending them down on the fold.
- Punch a hole at the top of the paper lantern on two sides. Attach a piece of yarn and hang!
- Read books to your students about Asian culture. Discuss the similarities and differences between Asian and American cultures. Include things such as dress, food, and holiday celebrations in your discussion.
- Have students find the continent of Asia on a classroom map. Then, encourage students to find some of Asia's individual countries, such as Japan, China, and Hong Kong.
- Encourage students to do all of the measuring and cutting for this activity to reinforce gross motor skills. Discuss the use of fractions when working with measurements.
