Supplies Needed
- Two 1/2" x 20" x 30" White Foam Board; Sheets
- One 3/16" x 20" x 30" Orange Foam Board; Sheet
- One 3/16" x 20" x 30" Yellow Foam Board; Sheet
- Craft Bond; Tacky Glue
- Craft Bond; Extra-Strength Spray Adhesive
- Adhesive Dot Stamper
- X-ACTO Gripster Knife (and new blade)
- X-ACTO Self-Healing Cutting Mat
- Painters Medium Paint Markers: Yellow, Lime Green, Bright Orange and White
- 8' length of 1 1/2" wide multi-color stripe ribbon
- Two 6 1/2" diameter white silk flowers
- Two 5" diameter lime green silk flowers
- 6" length of 24 gauge wire (to thread ribbon through flip flop)
- Misc.: sand paper, newspapers, scissors, ruler, pencil, two large paper clips
Instructions
- Glue Foam Board: Protect work surface with newspapers. Place one sheet of 1/2" thick white Foam Board onto newspaper and spray front surface with Craft Bond Extra-Strength Spray Adhesive. Place wrong side of orange Foam Board on top.
- Sketch Pattern: Refer to flip-flop pattern to sketch large 16" x 29" flip-flop onto newspaper (or back of roll of wrapping paper). Cut out pattern. Lightly, trace large pattern onto orange Foam Board.
- Cut Foam Board: Use X-ACTO Knife and Self-Healing Cutting Mat to cut along traced lines, always cutting in same direction. (Hint: Score lightly first and then press more firmly to cut deeper, making several passes of the knife. Replace blades often.) Lightly sand edges as needed.
- Paint Flowers: Use pencil to lightly draw, freehand flowers onto Foam Board or draw and cut large flower patterns from newspaper and trace onto flip-flop. Go over traced lines with Painters« Markers: Yellow, Lime Green and White. For bolder color, trace over lines a second time.
- Make Holes: For top hole, measure 6 1/2" down, 7" over from left side and 8" over from right side of flip flop edge. Use X-ACTO Knife to make hole by gently rotating knife until completely through Foam Board placed on Cutting Mat. For side holes, measure 12" down from top hole and 3/4" in from each side of flip-flop. Use X-ACTO Knife to make holes.
- Add Ribbon: Cut ribbon into two 24" lengths. To help thread ribbon through holes, fold a 6" length of wire in half. Place end of ribbon length into fold. Thread wire ends through front of left hole to back, similar to using a needle and thread. Leave 1" tail on back side of hole. Run other ribbon end across flip-flop and down into top hole, leaving 1" tail on back side of hole. (Ribbon will be loose.) Similarly, thread ribbon end down through right side hole, with other end going across flip-flop and down into top hole, leaving 1" tails at back. Use Sticky Dot Stamper to affix ribbon ends to back side of Foam Board.
- Tack Ribbon: Ripple ribbon and use Adhesive Dot Stamper to tack loops into place on flip-flop. Use Craft Bond Tacky Glue to attach green flower to center of white flower and then glue white flower into hole.
- Make Hanger Loop: Slightly separate curved ends of paper clip, (so that ends are about 1/4" apart). On back of flip flop, 2 1/2" from top (centered), use X-ACTO Knife to cut approx. 1/4" long horizontal slit. Gently insert shorter rounded end of paper clip up into slit, creating a hanger loop with the other end. (Glue if loose.)
- To Make Yellow Flip Flop: Repeat steps 1-9, turning over large pattern to make right flip-flop using yellow Foam Board and Painters Markers: Bright Orange, Lime Green and White.
