Instructions

  1. For each animal, use a metal spoon to carve out a 1 1/4" diameter circle from a foam ball, deep enough that it can fit on top of an air freshener approximately 1/2". Use Craft Bond™ Tacky Glue to attach foam ball to top of topper. Let dry.
  2. For monkey and lion, place brown and tan socks over foam ball and air freshener. Slide elastic end of sock down, to line up with bottom of air freshener. On each side of head, pull sock to form an ear and wrap rubber band around base of each ear to secure. Place rubber band around neck (area where foam ball and topper meet.)
  3. Refer to photo to cut a 1 ¼” diameter monkey face (resembles a heart with rounded bottom) and lion a 1” long triangular nose from tan felt. Use Tacky Glue to attach each to front of head. For eyes (and nose on monkey), push black-headed pins into foam ball. Refer to photo and shape wires into mouth shapes. Glue mouths to faces.
  4. For monkey tail, 1" from one end of chenille stem make a 90-degree bend. Glue bent area to base of air freshener underneath sock. (Tip: Use transparent tape to hold in place until glue is dry.) Bend chenille stem up toward head, curling and shaping tail.
  5. For mane, place a 5" long piece of tape horizontally on work surface with sticky side up. Tuck under ends to hold to table. Cut a 2" length of rope. Untwist rope and slightly separate rope fibers. Press separated strands of rope onto sticky side of tape with top edge of rope along top edge of tape. Repeat to fill entire length of tape with rope. Place another piece of tape on top of first piece, sticky side down, sandwiching rope ends between. Starting at top of lion's right ear and ending below lion's left ear, wrap and glue taped area of mane down and around head, leaving room for the hat. (If needed, secure with straight pins until glue dries.) Trim mane as needed.
  6. For elephant, fold chenille stem in half, apply Tacky Glue to stem ends and press ends into foam ball at nose position. Place sock over chenille stem, ball and air freshener with toe and foot of sock over chenille stem, and heel of sock covering back half of foam ball head. Slide elastic end of the sock down, to line up with bottom of air freshener. Place rubber band around neck. To form trunk, bend chenille stem as desired. To narrow and shape sock around chenille stem, place glue along under side of trunk and press sock together (pin if needed) until glue dries.
  7. For eyes, push black-headed pins into foam ball. Cut two 1 ½” wide x 3” tall ears from gray felt and two slightly smaller inner ears from pink felt. Glue an inner ear to each gray ear. Glue ears to sides of head (pin if needed) until glue dries.
  8. For hats, use X-ACTO® Rotary Paper Trimmer to cut 3” squares from scrapbook paper. Roll paper into a cone with point of square becoming point of cone. Trim, paper to round opening of cone. Glue to hold cone. Glue pom-pom to point. Loosely wrap and glue fibers around bottom of hat. Glue a hat to top of elephant and lion's heads. Glue hat to end of monkey's tail.
  9. Gently lift bottom of sock up, and slightly open air freshener to release scent. Place sock back down around base.
