Instructions

1. Plan Design: Referring to photo, use pencil on computer paper, to sketch Birthday Person's name and words relating to a birthday. Include words that would be special or appropriate for that person. (Note: If helpful, draw guidelines or rectangles into which words can be written.) Refer to pattern to leave spaces for two birthday hats and one cake cut-outs.)
2. Transfer Drawing: To transfer the drawing, use graphite paper or create your own by shading with a pencil on the back of the computer paper drawing. Fill in completely. Turn over so that graphite-covered side is centered on the closed front of the Bi-Fold Foam Board card (opening on the right). Use very small pieces of transparent tape to hold the four corners of the paper in place. Use pen to trace over words, pressing hard enough for graphite on back to transfer to Foam Board. (Peek underneath to be sure it's transferring.) After all has been transferred, remove tape and paper.
3. Cut Hats and Cake: Use graphite method on back of hat and cake patterns to transfer shapes onto Foam Board: two hats and two hat outlines; one cake and one cake outline.  Use X-ACTO Knife (with new blade) on X-ACTO Self-Healing Cutting Mat to cut Foam Board shapes. (Hint: Score lightly first and then press more firmly to cut deeper, with several passes of the knife.)
4. Plan and Use Painters : Use original drawing to plan and try out Painters« Paint Marker on words. Then color words on Foam Board card. Let dry.
5. Finish Hats and Cake: Use Painters on Foam Board cutouts. Let dry. Use Glue Stick to layer small cutouts on larger outlines and glue to card. (Let one hat extend beyond top of card.
6. Line Inside: Apply Glue Stick to orange cardstock and affix to inside right panel of card. Use X-ACTO Knife and Self-Healing Cutting Mat to trim away excess cardstock from edge of Foam Board card. Use Painters« to write message on orange cardstock.
