Paper Doll

Instructions

1.  Create your pattern on a piece of paper.  This doll was 6” wide across the bottom and  7 ½” tall.  Use a small plate or saucer for the rounded edges, all other lines are straight.

2.  Trace around the pattern on foam board then cut out with the craft knife.  Make 2.

3.  Glue the patterned paper to the foam board with the glue stick.

4.  To make the pleated ruffles, cut two 1” x 12” strips of patterned paper.  Lay each strip on the mat aligned with the measuring guide.  Using the metal ruler and the craft knife, lightly score a straight line across the width of the paper at 1” then ½” intervals along the length of the paper.  With the front of the paper facing, fold the strip down (away from you) on the first 1” line then fold up on the ½” line.  Repeat along the length of the strip. Adhere the top edge of each ruffle to the front of the dress with double stick tape.

5.  Cut a 3” circle.  With the reverse side together each time, fold the circle in half, open up then fold in half again in the opposite direction.  With these fold lines aligned fold in half again two more times to create 8 fold lines.  Cut along one fold line from the outside edge to the center. Using the fold lines as a guide, accordion fold the circle into a half circle.  Glue to the dress at the waist with a glue spot at the center and each outside corner.

6.  You can purchase ribbon roses, but it’s more fun to make your own.  Cut a pop-up glue spot with the backing paper from the roll.  Make a knot in the end of the ribbon.  Pull tightly then trim away any extra “tail”.  Push the knot firmly into the center of the glue spot then wrap the ribbon around the center  twisting and folding as you wrap  and pushing into the glue spot.  Cut the end of the ribbon and push into the outside edge of the dot.  Leave your roses on the backing until ready to use.  To create leaves, fold  2” pieces of green ribbon together then glue the overlapped ends together with a glue spot.

7.  Use the circle cutter to cut out a face for your paper doll, then glue to a wood circle. Glue the wood circle to the top of a long craft stick.  Adhere a small button to the end of the remaining 2 long craft sticks with a glue spot for shoes.

8.  Decorate the front of the dress as shown with gros grain ribbon, securing the ends at the back of the foam board with glue spots.  Adhere the leaves with the glue pen then press the roses in place.  Attach the cupcake button with 3 or 4 glue spots.

9.  Glue craft sticks in place on the second piece of foam board with the glue pen.  The 2 small ones are for the arms and the 2 long ones for legs then glue the craft stick with the head at the top.  Glue the decorated foam board on top.  Let dry thoroughly then glue gros grain ribbon around the outside edges of the foam board to finish.
