Teaching Tips:
  • Talk about how stained glass is produced with your students. Discuss that stained glass is glass that has been colored while it was being created. The small pieces of colored glass are arranged to make patterns and pictures. The glass is usually held in place by pieces of lead and a frame.
  • Talk with students about how was candles are made. Discuss how candles were used as a main source of light by people many years ago. Research how to make simple beeswax, no heat required!
  • Discuss recycling with your students. Talk about the importance of practicing the three Rs—reducing, reusing, and recycling. Ask students to brainstorm ways that they can reduce the amount of trash they produce. Ask students to brainstorm ways that they can reuse things more than once. (This project is a great example of reusing an item in a different way.) Ask students to list all of the items that they recycle in their homes.
